Ingredients:
2-4 Pieces Cube Steak (all depending on how many servings you need)
1 Can Chili with No Beans (Wolf brand is preferred in this house!)
1 Heaping Cup Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
2 Cups plus 1/2 Cup Buttermilk
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1/2 Teaspoon Onion Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Teaspoon Black Pepper
Vegetable Oil, for frying
-
Directions:
Place steaks in a bowl and pour 2 cups of buttermilk over them and let set for about 20 minutes. Season your flour with your spices and mix well, then drizzle in the 1/2 cup of buttermilk and mix into the flour to form little clumps that will stick to the steak and make it extra crunchy. Once your steak is done sitting in the buttermilk, take it piece by piece and coat it in the flour, then place it in a frying pan that's been heated with about and inch inch 1/2 of oil. Cook on each side about 6 minutes, or until done to your likeness. Drain your steaks and then move to a serving plate and spoon on heated up chili and sprinkle on cheese.

ReplyDeleteSo excited to see a recipe for chicken fried steak that looks "do-able". Gonna have to try the original way first, then maybe give it the chili twist the 2nd!
ReplyDeleteLove the looks of your new blog...I simply love this red neck cowboy food. We will so have to give this one a whirl!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight for my hubby and he gobbled it down! He's from a small town outside of Houston and he's never heard of topping it with chili and cheese but it was a huge hit!! I've had so much trouble getting the breading to stick to my cube steaks and turn out crispy but your recipe made them come out perfect!! I'm so thankful I came across your blog!
